If you have forgotten your password for the Apple Store and you want to download an App, an iBook, or some Music, there is a simple way to allow an automatic download that will not ask for your password. Go to Settings> Store > Enable Automatic Download for Music or Apps or iBooks. This leaves you vulnerable to anyone who picks up your iPad to purchase for the Store. The most secure way to downlod from the Store is to disable automatic download and learn your password.

If you forget your password, Bill Jordan has some notes on how you can create a new password here. Forgot Apple ID?

If McAgee Software prevents your PC computer from downloading a companion app on your desktop for an iPad app (a printer app, for example) here is way to get around it. Companion Download Aid

The 25 people who attended the iPad Club meeting were treated to an excellent demo and discussion by artist Andrea Pettito on Brushes (in the App Store $7.99). Brushes Handout

We also quickly ran through some other art apps: Inspire Pro, Art Studio (which includes a type tool), My Sketch (which turns photos into sketches), and Beep Beep (for the child in all of us who wish we could color something once in a while.) See the video by artist Olechka of the portrait of Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) done on an iPad with a finger and Brushes.

At the end of the meeting, I mentioned three apps that take the iPad in different directions.
i3D demonstrates the future possibilities of iPhone apps using a eyeglass-less third dimension.
Fuego's River Adventure is an iPad game with the user's motion controlling the play, like the Wii. There is a free app to try, and a paid app if you really love this game!
OnLive Desktop gives iPad users access to the MS Office Suite from any where with two GB of cloud storage for free. You need to sign up for a free account, but all else is free. It gives access to a secure, high-performance desktop in the cloud. To input information on this app, there is a dual keyboard that goes back and forth with Querty keys and handwriting recognition.

Here is a handout for Andrea Pettito's demo: Brushes Handout
The three new things to be explored are: i3D. Fuego's adventure, and OnLive Desktop.

Coming up next week is the February 20 iPad Club meeting. The program will feature Art Apps and guest artist Andrea Pettito will demonstrate one of the best -- Brushes -- used by professional artists to create illustrations and art for magazine covers and other publishing projects. We will talk about Apple iPad rumors for the iPad3, some new things that Apple is playing with on the iPad. Bring your questions, your tips, and your favorite apps to the meeting.

There is a open invitation to our iPad Club members to participate in the club by demonstrating what they like to do on the iPad, iPhone, or iPad Touch. This will keep the Club programs interesting and current. And the current activity leder will not run out of steam! So, please volunteer a friend by calling and letting me know what expertise is developing among your firends!

Here is a treasure trove of notes from Bill Jordan on How to set up Find My iPad, transfer photos from a camera to the iPad, transfer photos to and from the computer, set up iTunes and do airplay, and set up a video camera in your home using the iPad as controller. Also, printing from the iPad etc. to your printer, even if you do not have a wireless printer or eprinter. Bill's Notes

Students in the Beginning iPad Class at the Chatham Computer Center will be able to pick up their Homework Project here. iPad Club members could try this project as well!

Beginning iPad class at the COA Computer Center is teaching students all the secrets. Taking notes was not encouraged because we have this file on iPad Tips: Getting Started with the iPadby Patrick Jordan of iPad Insight. Everyone should read this! I learned a few things I did not know before.

Once you learn the basics and sample the native Apps on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, you can venture into the wonderful world of Apps. Since the iPad Club started, I put together not one, but two lists of my favorite apps.

The iPad Club is meeting today at 1:30 p.m. The program will begin with Ron Clark talking about wireless and how to get on it from an iPad etc. as well as what to be wary of when you are travelling around -- airports, hotel, fast food restaurants. We will talk about apps, and use one very special App to do it. Then we will show off any new accessories we might have gotten for a gift this past holiday.

I learned to play a few instruments in my time so I have the Garage Band App. In searching for some information on how to use it, I found this You Tube video. Can't wait to try it out.

We set up a class for beginners on the iPad at the Colin Campbell Computer Center. It is a two-session class on January 24 and January 26 for the first one. The same class will be repeated for other students February 21 and 23. January has a few openings (2) and February still has seven openings. Bill Jordan and I are teaching and we plan to go really slow. The cost is $25.

To register for the class, call the registration line at 508 945-9800 and I will call you back to get your information and give you the good or bad news about openings. Winter Spring COA Computer Classes

Today is Thanksgiving. In addition to all the good things about living in Chatham, being retired, having an iPad, and a club that has people helping people to use the iPad, I am happy to be starting a blog to share information on this subject! The very first handout we did was a list of Favorite Apps. There have been so many more apps created since then, that this has to be a never ending source for all our members. So, shortly, this list will be followed by Favorite Apps 2. Here is the current list of Favoite Apps.
